Foundation Conservation Carpathia wins prestigious BAMBI award for conservation project in Făgăraș Mountains
Foundation Conservation Carpathia conservation efforts and commitment to nature are recognised with the BAMBI award in the “Our Earth” category. Barbara and Christoph Promberger, executive directors of the Foundation, were honoured with this flagship trophy at the gala on 16 November at the Bavaria Film Studios in Munich.
The BAMBI Awards is a world-renowned event, now in its 75th year, that recognises excellence in various fields. It honours individuals and organisations who have achieved outstanding feats and had special impact on the German and European public.
Foundation Conservation Carpathia joins a group of personalities such as Michael Jackson, Ursula von der Leyen, Pope Francis, Tom Cruise, Bill Clinton, Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Mary of Denmark, who have received a BAMBI Award in previous editions. BAMBI Awards have been presented in 12 different categories since 1948.
In the “Our Earth” category, BAMBI has been recognising exceptional commitment to nature conservation for many years. Barbara and Christoph Promberger, executive directors of Foundation Conservation Carpathia, were honoured for their vision to create one of Europe’s largest national parks in the Făgăraș Mountains.
“We dedicate this award to Romania and its exceptional nature. We thank Romania for allowing us to make Romania our home.” Barbara and Christoph Promberger, executive directors of Foundation Conservation Carpathia, said on stage.
According to the BAMBI jury: “Barbara and Christoph Promberger are a role model for their commitment and dedication to nature. Through their project, they are creating the basis for nature, which is under constant pressure, to thrive again in a healthy world and create the conditions for biodiversity to be preserved.”
“We never expected the work of Foundation Conservation Carpathia to be honoured with a BAMBI award, but we are happy and joyful that BAMBI has brought Romania’s nature to the stage and that it has allowed us to present the Făgăraș Mountains to such a large audience. BAMBI gives us the motivation to go further with our nature conservation project and we hope that this project will inspire as many people as possible to get involved in forest protection”, said Barbara and Christoph Promberger, executive directors of Foundation Conservation Carpathia.
This award is great recognition of both the Foundation’s hard work over the last fourteen years and its dedicated efforts for the benefit of nature, not only at national but also at European level. Established in 2009, the Foundation aims to contribute to the conservation and restoration of natural ecosystems in the Carpathians, benefiting biodiversity and local communities. The Foundation’s goal is to establish the Făgăraș Mountains National Park and transform it into the most emblematic national park in Europe, for the benefit of nature and the local population living around these mountains, which are representative of Romania.
The Bambi Gala is an annual event organised by the Hubert Burda Media Group since 1948. The event returned in 2023 after a break due to the COVID pandemic.
