India stands at a transformative juncture in its socio-economic journey. In recent years, the Government of India has undertaken historic labour law reforms the most comprehensive overhaul of the country’s labour regulatory framework in decades designed to empower workers, modernize labour governance, and build an inclusive, future-ready work ecosystem for one of the world’s largest workforces. These reforms hold significance not just for India’s internal progress but also for its global economic partnerships.
At the heart of this transformation is the consolidation of 29 previously fragmented labour laws into four consolidated Labour Codes — the Code on Wages (2019), the Industrial Relations Code (2020), the Code on Social Security (2020), and the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code (2020).
