Alongside André Singer, Liev Schreiber co-directed the documentary film
‘Meeting Zelenski’ (work-in-progress), which will be screened at the AFF Gala
“This year, we celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Astra Film Festival. As always, we wanted to offer the Sibiu audience memorable moments that will stay with them long after the festival ends. One such moment is right at the festival’s opening when the audience will have the opportunity to meet two prestigious personalities in the world of cinema, such as Liev Schreiber and André Singer,“ said Dumitru Budrala, the director-founder of the Astra Film Festival.
The renowned Hollywood actor, director, and producer, Liev Schreiber, who has 6 Golden Globe nominations and 9 Emmy nominations to his name, will speak live during the Opening Gala of the Astra Film Festival, taking place today, October 15, starting at 6:00 PM at the Thalia Hall in Sibiu. Schreiber co-directed the documentary film “Meeting Zelenski” alongside André Singer and will discuss his experience meeting and filming the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenski. The opening gala of the anniversary edition of the Astra Film Festival will be hosted by the journalist Amalia Enache, and after the screening of the documentary, there will be a debate with Emmy award winner André Singer and the writer, journalist, and diplomat Emil Hurezeanu.
Liev Schreiber rose to prominence in the late ’90s and early 2000s with appearances in several mainstream films, including the horror film trilogy ‘Scream,’ ‘Phantoms,’ ‘The Sum of All Fears,’ ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine,’ ‘Salt,’ ‘Taking Woodstock,’ and ‘Goon.’ Romanian audiences are also familiar with him from the TV series ‘Ray Donovan,’ where he had the lead role (7 episodes, from 2013 to 2020) and received nominations for significant awards such as Emmy, Golden Globe, Critics Choice Television Awards, Satellite Awards, and Writers Guild of America.
Liev Schreiber is also a well-known supporter of Ukrainian causes and an official ambassador of the United24 platform, launched by the President of Ukraine to raise funds worldwide.
Co-directed by Emmy Award winner André Singer and director-actor Liev Schreiber, the documentary film ‘Meeting Zelenski’ follows the story of the Ukrainian president from his childhood in the USSR to his days of fame and success in the show business industry, and then to his role as the President of Ukraine. After the screening of the work-in-progress version of the Zelenski documentary, the Astra Film Festival audience will have the opportunity to engage in a Q&A session with director André Singer.
Present at Sibiu for the festival, André Singer will meet the Romanian audience on Wednesday, October 18 (5:00 PM) at Thalia Hall, in the framework of a masterclass titled ‘Masters: A Life in Documentary,’ created by BAFTA-nominated director Liviu Tipuriță. Singer will discuss anthropology, the perspective of collaboration with world-renowned directors, and approaches to sensitive and symbolically important subjects.
