Bucharest, August 6, 2025 – Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan issued a public statement today following the death of former President Ion Iliescu, marking the end of a pivotal chapter in Romania’s modern political history.

“Ion Iliescu, former President of Romania and a political leader in the post-1989 era, passed away today,” the Prime Minister said in an official message released by the government. “He held the office of Head of State on multiple occasions and led the country’s main left-wing party during those years.”
