The Italian basketball champion Gigi Datome shares the positive values of sport with the young people of Bulgari and Save the Children’s Punto Luce delle Arti in a motivating Masterclass.
Commitment. Mental toughness. Goal setting. Teamwork. Resilience. The teachings of sport go far beyond physical performance or the results achieved in the game.
This is the spirit in which Luigi Datome – known by all as Gigi – participated in a Masterclass at the Punto Luce delle Arti in Ostia, near Rome, meeting a group of about 30 young people aged between 10 and 16 to spend a day together experiencing the highest values of sport.
Born in 2019 from the partnership between Bulgari and Save the Children. Within an abandoned school in Ostia, a coastal suburb of Rome, the Punto Luce delle Arti is a hub for social activities, academic support and free education, aimed to improve the prospects of the young people in the area.
One of Italy’s greatest basketball players, Datome made his way from the small town of Olbia to the NBA and the captain role of the Italian national team, thanks to the charisma he demonstrated throughout his sports career.
“Sports are a beautiful thing to do at your age. It allows you to make friends, to share spaces like these and grow together thanks to the values of sport, which are respecting the rules, setting goals… Many teachings that one day will allow you to do what you dream of now as kids.” said captain Datome to his squad for a day.
A field lesson on sport understood as the key to focusing one’s talents and as a precious tool for training one’s human qualities.
The videos and images of the Masterclass with Datome will be released by Bulgari and Save the Children on the occasion of the World’s Children Day which occurs on November 20, as a significant occasion to remember and reaffirm children’s right to education, but also to play, sport and general welfare.
